In the digital ministry world, we often fall into one of two traps: we either over-plan for months and never launch, or we "wing it" and wonder why we aren’t seeing a real impact.
If you are running a digital ministry or a for-profit ministry enterprise, you don’t have time for a two-year strategic plan that gathers dust on a shelf. This is why the biggest enemy to any ministry isn't a lack of vision—it’s a lack of momentum.
Enter the Ministry Strategy Sprint.
A sprint isn't about rushing; it’s about focus. It’s a framework designed to help you stop overthinking and start serving. Here is how to run your own 5-step sprint to get your mission off the ground and into the hands of the people who need it.
Your "Vision" isn't just a dream; it's a deliverable. Whether you are looking to launch a ministry website, start a podcast, or attract your first 50 followers, you need to name it. Think of it as a tangible outcome you desire to accomplish. Knowing what the goal is for, can help you get a clear idea of what you are trying to make happen.
Be Specific: Instead of saying "I want to be online," say "I am building a resource hub for overwhelmed ministry leaders in the UK."
Define the Finish Line: What does "done" look like for this project?
Spiritual Connection: Why is God calling you to build this specific thing right now? What impact will this platform have once it’s live?
In ministry, we want to help everyone, but if you try to speak to everyone, you end up reaching no one.
The Ministerial Perspective: Who is the specific person God has called you to serve in this strategy sprint? What are their late-night Google searches? What are their specific pain points? What problem do they need you to solve?
Focus: Instead of focusing on your ministry's mission, focus entirely on the user’s needs.
Ministry work can feel more attainable when you can see what you are working towards. Queue the Visual Anchor—these are the symbols, a collage of images, or graphics you use to represent your goal. This keeps you grounded when the "noise" of everyone else's vision gets in the way.
Why It Works: It reminds you of the "Promised Land" you’re heading toward. When you get distracted by every ending to-do list or small things you need to complete, look back at your anchor.
The Vision Board: Choose a collection of images that remind you of the person you are serving. When things get tough, look at the anchor.
How do you know if you’re winning or if the strategy is paying off? In the digital space, we use Success Metrics. This isn't just about "vanity stats" like followers; it’s about meaningful engagement.
The 1-5 Milestones: Break your big vision into five clear markers.
Example: Milestone 1 might be start an online podcast ministry.
Example: Milestone 5 might be your first 50 subscribers.
Ministry ROI: What does success look like in God’s economy? (e.g., prayer requests received, lives changed).
A sprint is useless without a "Call to Action." This is where you move from "planning" to "doing." To get started, you need to create a list of reflection questions that trigger immediate movement. For example,
What is the one thing I can launch in the next 48 hours to help our audience?
What is the biggest "roadblock" I can remove today?
Who is the first person I need to reach out to/ or what is the first thing I can take action on right now?
The 48-Hour Rule: What is the one thing you can do in the next 48 hours to move toward Milestone 1? This will be your priority list.
The Prompt: "To serve [Target Audience], I will [Action] by [Date]."
A Ministry Strategy Sprint isn't about being perfect; it’s about making progress. By focusing on your audience and moving through these five steps, you're turning a "good idea" into a digital "Great Commission".
The benefits of a ministry strategy sprint are that it allows you to iterate. You don't need a perfect plan; you need a call to action.
Final Encouragement: How has God used "small starts" in your life to create a big impact?
If you need help mapping out your ministry strategy, I’ve created a tool to help you move at a pace that works for you. Whether you’re launching a podcast or building a new website, this framework will keep you focused on what matters most: the people you are called to serve.
